Laser Engraving Leatherette Hat Patches – Quick & Easy Guide
Leather
Introduction
Project Settings
Step 1: Prepare Artwork
To start, in our design software we’ll select our first design. Note that you may need to make adjustments depending on the size of your patches. Select the artwork and print it to the Laser Dashboard, choosing “Selection Only”.
Step 2: Set up Artwork in the Laser Dashboard
In the Epilog dashboard, position your artwork and input your engraving settings. On an 100-watt Fusion Pro 24 we used 400 dpi, 100% speed, and 50% power, with “bottom-up” engraving selected.
Step 3: Engrave Leather Patches
At the laser, select the job and press go to run the engraving.
Step 4: Heat Press Setup
After powering on the heat press, set the temperature and the amount of time you want to press the patches. For this project, we found that 270 degrees at 15 seconds worked best. Once the heat press has reached the set temperature, it will beep and be ready to start pressing.
Use heat-resistant tape to place and secure the patch where you would like it to be on the hat. You can fold over the ends of the tape so that it’s easier to remove after the pressing process.
Step 5: Heat Press Leather Patches
When the heat press is ready, place the hat on the press, followed by a heat application pad on top of the hat. Apply the heat press and wait for it to beep after the press time is complete, then release the hat and remove the tape.
Now you have some beautiful laser engraved leather hat patches.
