Top 5 Questions to ask your local Epilog Laser Representative
Purchasing a laser engraving and cutting machine is an important investment. Whether you’re starting a new laser business or upgrading your current equipment, you want to make an informed decision so you fit the right laser for your application and business.
Just as you wouldn’t buy a house unseen or a car without driving it, it’s important to see potential laser machines in action. When it’s time to schedule your hands-on demo with your Epilog rep, make sure to ask these 5 questions!
1. What laser machine is best suited for my specific application?
- Clarify whether you’re engraving, cutting, or marking.
- Mention materials (wood, acrylic, metal, fabric, glass, etc.) and volume of work.
- Ask which model (Fusion Maker, Fusion Edge, Fusion Pro, Galvo G100) matches your business or hobby needs.
2. What kind of support and training do you offer?
- Do they provide on-site setup, operator training, or remote assistance?
This will vary by distributor and machine type – before selecting your laser make sure you understand your distributors set up and training options.
- Ask about turnaround time for support requests and access to Epilog’s tech support team.
Support requests from Epilog’s technical support staff are generally responded to the same day. After submitting a ticket on the Epilog website, we will route your request to the technician best equipped to handle your issue.
- Are there training videos, manuals, or local workshops available?
Yes! Epilog’s support center is filled with training videos to help get and keep you up and running. Additionally, our extensive owner’s manual covers set up, exhaust, connecting your computer to the laser, installing drivers, maintenance topics, and much more!
3. What warranty and service options are included?
- How long is the warranty?
Epilog proudly offers a 2-year “bumper-to-bumper” warranty on our machines – this includes all parts and components, including the laser tube.
- Do they offer extended service plans or service contracts?
Epilog offers extended warranties – you’ll want to ask your distributor about pricing. Also inquire if your local distributor offers any service or maintenance contracts for a fee.
- What happens if you need to repair or replace a part?
We design all our machines to be field-serviceable, so you should not encounter any issues if you need to replace a part. We also have an extensive support center that has videos and tutorials on all types of maintenance activities.
4. What are the total costs beyond the laser machine itself?
- Shipping.
- Installation (On larger systems, this is generally included in the purchase price; however, for our smaller, starter-level machines, it may incur an additional cost).
- Accessories (exhaust systems, rotary attachments, optional lenses, etc.).
- Design software and design files.
- Supplies (glues, paints, tapes, cleaners, measuring tools, etc.).
- Marketing and sales tools (website, e-commerce, selling platform).
5. Can I test my own materials, products, and files?
- Epilog distributors offer in-person demos where you can bring and test your own materials. Helping you to assess engraving and cutting quality, speed, and workflow before you make your design and purchase.
- Ask to see jobs run on different machines to compare results, run times, etc.
- Application Lab for material testing and a “dial-it-in” experience with a full report.
- Download our Free Software Suite. Use our Job Time Estimator to see how long your job will take on a selected material.
Selecting the right laser engraving and cutting machine requires more than just comparing specs—it’s about finding the best fit for your specific needs and long-term goals. By asking your local Epilog Laser representative the right questions about applications, support, warranty, total costs, and material testing, you’ll gain valuable insight into what to expect from both the equipment and Epilog Laser as a company. A hands-on demo combined with clear, informed questions ensures you make a confident, educated investment in a machine that will support your business or hobby for years to come.
