Expand Your Creative and Production Capabilities
Expand Your Horizons
with the Fusion Ascent Pass-Through Upgrade
With pass-through capability, your machine can handle materials that extend beyond the standard work area. The Epilog Fusion Ascent makes it easy to engrave oversized pieces and tackle large-format cutting projects, giving your business the flexibility to take on bigger jobs, expand your offerings, and grow into new opportunities.
With the Fusion Ascent Class 4 conversion kit, you can open the front and rear of the machine to feed longer or larger materials through the system. That means your laser is no longer restricted to standard cabinet dimensions for every application. From oversized signs and architectural elements to full-length boards and custom furniture components, the Fusion Ascent pass-through feature gives you the ability to expand your offerings, attract higher-value work, and scale your laser business.
Take on High-Value Jobs
with Oversized Laser Engraving
For many shops, some of the most profitable projects are also the hardest to process on a standard laser system. Large substrates often need to be cut down, segmented, or turned away entirely. The Fusion Ascent pass-through upgrade changes that.
Oversized Signage
Create laser cut signage and engraved displays that make a bold impression. Feed longer panels and larger blanks through the machine for projects such as:
- Wayfinding signs
- Large corporate lobby logos
- Oversized acrylic lettering
- Branded wood signage
- Dimensional retail displays
Instead of adjusting your workflow to fit the machine, you can produce larger finished pieces more efficiently and with fewer compromises.
Woodworking and Furniture Components
Woodworking shops can engrave directly onto standard-size or oversized pieces without trimming them down first. This opens the door to custom work such as:
- Engraved doors
- Personalized tabletops
- Live-edge slabs
- Long wood planks
- Decorative furniture panels
Working on full-size pieces helps preserve the integrity of the material and saves time during setup and prep.
Sporting Goods Customization
The Fusion Ascent pass-through feature is also ideal for businesses customizing long products such as:
- Baseball Bats
- Skis
- Snowboards
- Skateboards
These projects often command premium pricing and give shops a way to serve niche markets with standout personalization.
Architectural and Decorative Elements
Architectural fabricators and custom manufacturers can process larger decorative components for commercial and residential installations, including:
- Decorative wall panels
- Continuous molding
- Branded interior features
- Custom architectural accents
For shops focused on specialty production, the ability to engrave longer materials can create entirely new revenue opportunities.

Improve Workflow Efficiency and Material Yield
The value of the Fusion Ascent Class 4 conversion kit goes beyond bigger jobs. It also helps streamline production.
By allowing operators to work with longer materials, full sheets, or continuous stock, the pass-through feature can reduce the need for pre-cutting material just to fit within the cabinet. That means less prep work before production even begins.
For growing businesses, these workflow improvements can have a direct impact on profitability. Less waste and less handling mean more efficient production and a better return on every sheet, board, or panel you run through the machine.
Business Benefits:
- Less time spent cutting stock down to size
- Reduced material waste
- Better use of full-length or full-sheet materials
- Faster processing for repeat or large-format jobs
- Greater production flexibility for custom work

FAQ’s
You’ve got questions, we got answers.
Pass-through is ideal for oversized signage, dimensional displays, long wooden planks, full-length skis, architectural panels, and other materials that exceed the standard engraving area. It opens the door to larger, higher-value projects while maintaining the precision and quality Epilog machines are known for.
All Fusion Ascent systems ship as enclosed Class 2 laser systems. To use the pass-through feature, the machine must be converted to Class 4 operation using Epilog’s optional Class 4 Conversion Kit. The kit includes safety glasses, warning labels, documentation, and the components necessary to safely enable pass-through functionality.
Technically, no, but we strongly encourage it. Because pass-through operation requires Class 4 laser operation, a designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO) should complete laser safety training before the feature can be used. Epilog provides complimentary online LSO training through a third-party partner, helping customers understand laser hazards, required safety protocols, operator training requirements, and compliance responsibilities. Upon completion, the LSO receives a certificate of completion.
The Laser Safety Officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe Class 4 laser environment. This includes implementing safety controls and signage, ensuring operators wear appropriate laser safety eyewear, documenting training, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and developing emergency procedures. Having a trained LSO helps ensure oversized materials can be processed safely and responsibly using the Fusion Ascent’s pass-through feature.
