To use the pass-through feature, the machine must be converted to Class 4 operation using Epilog’s optional Class 4 Conversion Kit. The kit includes safety glasses, warning labels, documentation, and the components necessary to safely enable pass-through functionality. 

    Do I need Laser Safety Officer (LSO) training to use the pass-through feature?

    Technically, no, but we strongly encourage it. Because pass-through operation requires Class 4 laser operation, a designated Laser Safety Officer (LSO) should complete laser safety training before the feature can be used. Epilog provides complimentary online LSO training through a third-party partner, helping customers understand laser hazards, required safety protocols, operator training requirements, and compliance responsibilities. Upon completion, the LSO receives a certificate of completion.

    What are the responsibilities of a Laser Safety Officer?

    The Laser Safety Officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe Class 4 laser environment. This includes implementing safety controls and signage, ensuring operators wear appropriate laser safety eyewear, documenting training, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and developing emergency procedures. Having a trained LSO helps ensure oversized materials can be processed safely and responsibly using the Fusion Ascent’s pass-through feature.
