Technical Library: Creating a Custom Toolbar in CorelDRAW

There are many ways to make CorelDRAW work more efficiently for you. One way you can customize Corel is by rearranging menu items and toolbars into groupings that work better with the way you use these tools. In this demonstration we'll look at how you can create your own custom toolbar.

Check out the flash demonstration of this technique by clicking here.

1)

In this example, I have a nameplate that I repeatedly create for a customer. Each time I make it, I have three steps I have to go through. First, I center the text in the text box, then I center the text box on the page, and finally I change the text to outlines using the Convert to Curves tool.

I want to take these three tasks and create a toolbar that makes it easy to access each tool.

2)

To create a new toolbar, hold down the Ctrl and Alt buttons at the same time and drag the tool you want to use to the drawing page.

Here we accessed the Center Text tool by holding down our Ctrl and Alt buttons while dragging the Center Text tool down from the menu bar onto the drawing page.

Make sure you have your text selected, or you won't be able to access the Center Text tool.

3)

A new toolbar will be created on your page (circled in red to the right) with a copy of the Center Text tool we dragged to the page.

4)

Repeat this step by selecting the Center to Page tool with your Ctrl and Alt keys selected and dragging it into the new toolbar.

Then select the Convert to Curves tool with your Ctrl and Alt keys selected and drag it into the new toolbar.

Now you should have three tools in your new toolbar.

5)

Now that we've added the tools we want to use to our new toolbar, let's give it a custom name so we can find it whenever we need to use it.

Right-click your mouse on the new toolbar and choose "Customize," then "New Toolbar 1 Toolbar," then "Properties."

6)

The window that opens shows us all of the menu bars that we have available in CorelDRAW, including the New ToolBar 1 toolbar that we created.

By double-clicking on new Toolbar 1, you can change the name of the toolbar. We renamed it "Nameplate Tools."

7)

With our new toolbar renamed, click OK to return to the drawing page.

8)

Now you can format your project by clicking the three buttons on your new toolbar. By clicking the Center Text button, the Center to Page button and the Create Curves button, your project is ready to engrave!

9)

You can place the toolbar anywhere on the screen. You can even drag it onto the main toolbar so that it will be available whenever you run your project.

That's all there is to it! Now you can create your own toolbars for the tools you use most often!
