Technical Library: Adding Perspective to Text

Have you been looking for a cool new feature to add to your engraving designs? How about a quick and easy way to add perspective to your text using the Add Perspective effect in CorelDRAW? By adding perspective to text, you can take a regular plaque and create a fun, unique look to add to your portfolio!

Check out the flash demonstration of this technique by clicking here.

1)

Start with a new document in CorelDRAW. Click the Text button (circled in red) on the Tool Bar to create the text that we will be adding perspective to.

2)

With the Text tool selected, click down and drag across the page to set the area that you want to create your text box. If you click and release the mouse button, you will create standard text, while clicking down and dragging the mouse creates paragraph text.

3)

Type in the text you want to add perspective to and center it in your text box. Since we're creating an effect of the text disappearing off into the distance, you are going to want to have a relatively long block of text to show off the effect.

4)

Next we need to change the text box we have created to Artistic Text to be able to add our Perspective effect to it.

Right click on the text box, and choose Convert to Artistic Text (circled in red).

5)

The text can now be manipulated using the Effects menu. Click on Effects on the top menu bar, then on Add Perspective.

6)

Your text box will now have a red grid pattern around it, like shown at the right.

7)

By using guidelines, you can precisely determine how deep of a perspective you want your text box to have.

We have created a guideline at the center of our text box and one at 1.5" on either side of center. We also created a guideline .75" above our current text box. This will be how high our text will be stretched to.

8)

Next, click and drag each of the top co rners of the text box to our guide line points. Now your image should look like the image to the right. The text gradually disappears into the background, giving you a very unique look on your plaques.

9)

Now you can add fun images and personalize the plaque to make a truly unique piece!

10)

Dress up the plaque using gold and silver foils to really make it stand out!

11)

Now that you know how to use the Add Perspective effect, you can add all types of great new text features to your engraving. See what ideas you can come up with!
