Sample Club: How to Laser Engrave Oversized Novelty Pencils
We're always interested in intricate, multi-step engraving projects; however, sometimes we run across an item that's too fun and too creative that we just have to see how it will engrave. For example, we ran across these colorful novelty pencils, which aren't only unique and fun, but they make great awards and keepsakes - especially in the academic arena or for aspiring writers, artists, etc.
Read on to learn how to create this fun and unique gift item!
Materials:
Large pencil - we purchased ours from Pencil Craft, LLC. We selected 36" and 23" pencil.
Note: the pencils come in a variety of sizes so make sure the size you select will fit inside your system.
These 23" and 36" oversized engraved pencils make a great gift (and easy engraving project) for a teacher or artist in your life!
Files: Right click the files below and choose "Save target as." Open the file in CorelDraw 8 or later.
Follow the steps below to complete the project. We used the 400 dpi wood engraving settings settings for a 75-watt Legend 36 EXT, but you will need to consult your owner's manual to determine the proper settings for your machine:
Speed: 75% Power: 100% dpi: 400
1. Begin by inserting the pencil inside the engraver. Open the file you'd like to engrave and make any necessary changes to text/graphics.
2.
Draw a vector box around the design and send only that job to the laser. Remember to turn on the Red Dot Pointer and leave the lid open - this step is only to ensure the design is engraved the desired location.
3. Once you're happy with the placement, simply remove the vector box and send the engraving job to the laser!
