Sample Club: Laser Cut Card Design for Mother's Day or Mom's Birthday

With such a variety of different designs, weights and colors, paper is quickly becoming a very popular material for laser cutting custom greeting cards. Here we'll guide you through the steps to create a very unique and thoughtful laser cut card for Mother's Day or for mom's birthday.

By taking a simple design and a few pieces of papers with fun colors and patterns, you can create an entire line of cards that would be popular for any holiday.

To create this clever Mother's Day card, just follow the instructions below.

Materials:

  • 12" x 12" cardstock (available at any craft store) in varying colors and patterns. We chose a pastel color for the main part of the card and spring/floral designs for the accent portions.  All of the papers we used were from a book from Pink Armadillo.
  • Craft glue stick.

This sample club project can be completed in just a few steps. We used a 50-watt Helix with the following settings:
Speed: 100%
Power: 15%
Frequency: 1000

The first step is cutting the main portion of the card.

Start by inserting the Vector Pin Table into the upper left corner of the machine. We used the vector pin table only on the main portion of the card because it is the only piece that will be seen from the front, and we do not want to have any visible burn marks.

Place the paper on top of the vector pin table and tape it down as necessary.

If you don't have a Vector Pin Table, just raise the paper above the table using small blocks of wood, placing them so the laser won't hit them when cutting through the paper.

After the main portion has been cut, it's time to move on to the decorative accents. Select the letters in the word "MOM" and send only that selection to the laser. Perform this step on two different paper patterns to achieve the shadowed letter look on the front of the card.

The last step prior to assembling the card is to cut the border that runs down the side. Select only the border portion and send that job to the laser.

When you've completed all the steps you should have eight total pieces: main card, border and six letters.

Assembling the card

Leaving the card flat, glue the side border to the card.

Next, glue the first set of letters.

Glue the second set of letters slightly off center from the first set. This will add depth to the card.

After the glue has dried, fold the card in half and you're ready to write your greeting!
