Sample Club: Engraved Memo and Pen Holders

These desktop memo and pen holders from LaserBits, Inc accent any workspace. Designed to hold a memo note pad and pen, the engraving area looks great with these quotes and images, or change them out with your company's logo and personalized text. For this sample file we have included three different inspirational quotes using laser foil, also available from LaserBits.

The foil is a great way to customize dark woods that may not show as much contrast as you would like when engraved. The foil allows your engraving to stand out, while providing a professional engraved look.

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Memo Pad Holder (available from LaserBits)
  • Laserable Foil (available from LaserBits)

Files: Right click the file below and choose "Save target as." Open the file in CorelDraw 8 or later.

  1)

Start with a blank memo holder. We will be engraving in the area to the right of the memo pad space. While you could engrave directly on the wood, we are going to use a laser foil to make the graphics and text stand out. The files you download will already be setup to engrave in the correct area of the memo holder.

  2)

Cut a piece of foil larger than the engraving area. Peel off the backing, and stick it directly over the area that will be engraved.

  3) Open your graphics in CorelDRAW. They are ready to engrave as they are laid out, or move the images and graphics around as you would like them to look on the engraving. Wherever you engrave on the foil will turn black.
  4) Open your graphics in CorelDRAW. They are ready to engrave as they are laid out, or move the images and graphics around as you would like them to look on the engraving. Wherever you engrave on the foil will turn black.
  5) Place the memo pad in the upper left corner of the engraving area and send it the engraver. You will want to use a relatively low speed and power to cut, so that you only cut through the foil and not into the wood.

  6) Peel off the excess foil around the vector lines. The foil should remove easily if you have cut it to the correct depth. You may need play with your laser's settings to get it to cut through only the laser foil.

  7) And you're done! You can also use these files to engrave directly on the wood instead of on foil. To do this, delete the border vector line that cuts out the foil, and send it to the laser as raster only.
