Sample Club: Harvest Door Crown

Decorate your house with this wonderful fall door crown. It can be placed on the top of an entryway in your house or used as a wall hanging.

Add your own art to this item, or use the patterns we have provided. You can make it as large or small as you would like.

Start by placing double-stick tape on the back of each piece of wood, except for the 1/4" walnut.

The six different files that you downloaded match up to the six different wood sheets we're working with: 1/8" alder, walnut, maple, mahogany and cherry, and 1/4" walnut. In Figure B, you can see the files that correspond to each material.

All speed and power settings below are what we used to create this project on a 45 watt Epilog Mini 24.

harvest_walnut1.cdr: Place the 1/4" walnut sheet in the laser and send the project to the laser in vector mode. 45 watt settings: 10% speed, 100% power.

harvest_alder.cdr: Replace the walnut sheet with the 1/8" thick alder. Select the black outline and text (these have been grouped together so they will be easier to select) and send the selected items to the laser in combined mode. Raster settings: 45% speed, 100% power. Vector settings: 35% speed, 100% power.

Next, select the orange objects in the file. (These have also been grouped together.) We need to lightly cut these lines so we can see where to place our pumpkin, leaves and gourds. Send the selected items to the laser in vector mode. 45 watt settings: 50% speed, 70% power.

harvest_walnut2.cdr, harvest_maple.cdr, harvest_mahogany.cdr and harvest_cherry.cdr: Send each file to the laser with the matching piece of wood. These files should all be sent to the laser in combined mode. We used raster settings of 45% speed and 100% power and vector settings of 35% speed and 100% power.

After all of the pieces are cut out, you'll have an assortment of pieces that look like Figure C. First, peel off the double-stick tape backing to the alder layer and stick it to the 1/4" walnut.

Next, peel the double-stick tape backing from the leaves and gourds and place those on top of the alder, lining them up with the "orange" lines we lightly cut in the alder sheet.

And that is all there is to it. Simple, easy and fun!
