laser cut butterfly pendant

Sample Club: Laser Cut Butterfly Necklace

As we are all trying to be more environmentally conscious, we created this fun and fashionable butterfly pendant comprised of materials we had on hand.

Using corrugated cardboard from a box that was to be recycled, as well as some artistic paper from past projects were able to quickly and easily produce this charming pendant. Use this concept as a foundation and before you know it you'll be designing completely new creations using materials you already have!

Materials:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Adhesive-back artistic paper (available at any craft store.)
  • Glue stick (optional - in case you don't have adhesive back paper.)

Files:
Right click the files below and choose "Save target as." Open the file in CorelDraw 8 or later.

Please check your owner's manual for the proper settings for your machine. For this project we used a 50-watt Helix with the following settings:

Butterfly cutout:
  • Speed: 25%
  • Power: 50%
  • Frequency: 500Hz
Butterfly wings:
  • Speed: 50%
  • Power: 30%
  • Frequency: 500Hz

Begin by adhering the first layer of paper to both sides of the corrugated cardboard (the pendant is double-sided.)

When it it sufficiently adhered insert into the laser and send sc_butterfly_cutout.cdr to the laser.

Next, send the file sc_butterfly_wings.cdr to the laser and cut out the last layers of the pendant.

Carefully remove the adhesive back from the butterfly wing cutouts and adhere to both sides of the pendant. Insert a thin chain and you're all set!
