Gizmodo Launches iPad Contest Sponsored by Adafruit Industries and Epilog Laser

Winners receive one-of-a-kind laser engraved iPad

Golden, Colo. – (March 15, 2008)
Epilog Laser today the company is teaming with Adafruit Industries to sponsor the iPad Contest, presented by Gizmodo.

Beginning March 15, Gizmodo will start accepting design entries for possible laser engraving on the highly-anticipated iPad. Two winners will be selected and each will receive a laser engraved iPad featuring each participant’s respective design. Finalists will be picked by the Gizmodo staff, Adafruit and Epilog. After the top 10 are selected, Gizmodo readers will vote for the two grand-prize winners. Adafruit will donate the engraving services on their Epilog Laser, and Epilog will donate the iPads for the contest.

“Engraving tech-gadgets is unbelievably popular right now,” said Mike Dean, director of sales and marketing for Epilog Laser. “We’re happy to donate the iPads for the competition and are excited to team with Gizmodo and Adafruit. It’s a perfect fit because we can connect with people who really understand what our product can do - the designers, the DIY crowd, the inventors – all of those who genuinely appreciate what lasers are capable of.”

The iPad Contest opens March 15 and runs through midnight PST April 3. The competition is open to all U.S. residents 18 and older. Complete rules can be found at gizmodo.com and adafruit.com.

  • Your work area is about 9.5" x 7.47" - we'll need to modify your art since we can't measure now, but just work in vector and we'll figure it out.
  • The actual artwork should be vector-based and black and white - EPS or AI format and make sure al fonts are converted to curves. Adafruit will work with the winner to make sure the engraving looks great.
  • If you don't own the artwork or image, don't submit it. Gizmodo and Adafruit can't really etch some else's work - be original. We are not responsible for checking all the art to make sure you own it, if someone freaks it's all on you.
  • You can only enter once, so do a good job.
  • Contest is open to everyone in the 50 states - 18 and older.
  • Finalists will be selected by the Gizmodo staff, Adafruit and Epilog; after the top 10 are selected, a vote will be held for readers to choose their favorite. Top 2 win and if there's any gaming of the voting systems(s), Gizmodo will pick the winners - all decisions are final.
  • Two winners will each receive one Apple iPad (Wi-Fi) laser etched by Adafruit Industries. Approximate retail value is $499.00+$100 laser etching fee.
  • If you are a winner, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen.
  • Design entries can be submitted until midnight PDT, APril 3, 2010.
